Biography for Michael Ghent:

It isn't every creative business professional who can seamlessly shift gears into such diverse activities as producing award-winning television, serving on a board for charitable/arts organizations, managing rebranding strategies, programming film festivals and creating high-end conferences for federal government employees. I am such a creative talent.

I am a dynamic, result and client oriented media, communications, social enterprise and events professional with an extensive education; a BSc from the University of Toronto and a Diplôme d'études supérieures from
ESSEC Business School - an international higher education institution located in France, plus a Certificate in Film Production from the Vancouver Film School.

I joined the
Vancouver International Film Festival as Assistant to the Director, followed by the role of Programming Director for Canadian Images and then Creative Director for The Forum of the VIFF. I am still a member of the International Programming Committee, making recommendations on films for the inclusion in the yearly film festival.

In 2003, I was hired by
CanWest Global Broadcasting as a Production Execute and was responsible for over 500 hours of factual programming in numerous genres including lifestyle, true crime and reality series. I won a Gemini in 2007 for Best Documentary Series, Global Currents, hosted by Kevin Newman which focused on current affairs and social issues. I was also the Executive in Charge of Production for the televised Geminis that year.

I launched Ghent Digital in 2009. Production highlights include Digital Content Writer and Associate Producer on
Canada In A Day for CTV/Bell Media, Showrunner for Arcadia Entertainment on 30 hours of natural history programming for Love Nature and the Smithsonian Network plus development work for numerous Canadian companies.

Returning to Toronto in 2015, I switched gears and am currently the Manager of Conference Development for
Infonex Professional Development. Here I conceive, research and develop professional-level conferences on topics such as IoT, AI, smart cities, risk management, big data & analytics, human resources for Indigenous communities, digital government, internal controls, infrastructure planning, professional regulations & discipline and a variety of other topics essential to the operation of private and government sector organizations across Canada.

I have a practical and common sense approach. I am hard working individual who wants to contribute to the organizational results. I am very resourceful, highly motivated, reliable and loyal with a high sense of personal and professional integrity - plus a great sense of humour!
